May 1st will start the new plate change for all of those that have a chickadee plate.   We will change your plates out when you come into re-register your vehicle if it expires in May 2025 or after.

If you re-register online with a chickadee plate on rapid renewal they will issue you a new tree plate at the time of renewal for vehicles that expire May 2025 or after, and the plate will be shipped to your address with registration and stickers.

If you have reserved a new tree plate or no tree plate, you will need to bring the letter and plate with you at the time of re-registration.  These plates should arrive to you about 2-4 weeks prior to renewal.

If you have a chickadee number that you would like on a new plate, they are asking that you reserve it ahead of time.  You can reserve your number at maine.gov/online/reservemyplate .  There is a one-time 25-dollar fee with reserving the plate numbers.

If you have a vanity plate on a chickadee plate and you are wanting to keep that plate, you should use the same link above to reserve your vanity plate, and it will be mailed to you 2-4 weeks prior to expiration.

We also carry many other plate options if you don’t like the tree or no tree plate, however those plates do have additional fees associated with them each year. If you would like to switch to one of these plates, just let us know at the time of re-registration.

When you come into re-register your vehicle, please remember that you will need your old registration, current mileage and proof of insurance.  Also, with the changing of plates on all chickadee plates your visit at the office / wait times might be a bit longer than normal.
