Boston Post Cane
Boston Post Cane
The Boston Post Cane is a long-standing New England tradition that recognizes the oldest living resident of a town. The tradition began in 1909, when the Boston Post newspaper distributed decorative canes to participating communities to be presented to their oldest living residents as a symbol of honor and recognition.
The Town of Hermon is proud to recognize its oldest living resident through this special tradition, celebrating the history, experiences, and contributions of our longtime community members.

The Current Boston Post Cane Recipient
The Town of Hermon is pleased to recognize Elizabeth “Betty Jane” Sandberg (98) as the newest recipient of the Town’s Boston Post Cane. The Town of Hermon congratulates Betty Jane on this wonderful distinction and wishes her continued happiness and many more years as part of our community.

Pictured above with Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty Jane” Sandberg is (L to R) June Sandberg, daughter in law, Betty Jane, Craig Sandberg (son). Check out her dedication piece here.
Do you know an individual who may qualify for the honor of holding the cane?
Please contact the Hermon Town Clerk at (207) 848-1010.

The Hermon Connection
The Hermon Connection is a seasonal publication the Town distributes to residents to inform them on what has been happening throughout the Hermon community. Articles are submitted from both town employees and the general public. If you have an article you’d like to submit, please send it to ouellettel@hermonmaine.gov. Please feel free to click the links below to access our most recent publications!
For a long time, The Hermon Connection has been a way for the Town of Hermon to share updates, stories, and announcements from across our community. We appreciate the contributions from town departments, residents, and local businesses who help make each issue informative and engaging.
Effective July 2026, The Hermon Connection will transition from a bi-monthly publication to a quarterly schedule, with issues released four times per year: Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. This change will allow us to better manage production while continuing to provide timely and meaningful information to our residents.
We remain committed to keeping the community informed and connected, and we thank you for your continued support and participation.
